The steady increase in beef prices over the past 12 months is very encouraging for Irish farmers but should not be taken for granted. With this in mind, a special event called “Capturing the beef bonus on your farm” is being hosted by the Irish Hereford Prime producer group in Corrin Mart, Fermoy on Wednesday 8th February at 7.30pm.
Dr. Padraig French of Teagasc Moorepark will discuss “Beef crossing on the dairy herd” while Teagasc Herd Health Researcher Riona Sayers will look at how to safely introduce a bull to into your herd.
The event will be chaired by the Irish Farmers Journal beef editor Justin McCarthy and will include live cattle displays with a focus on dairy bred Hereford steers and heifers, the bulls suitable for the dairy herd and also the ideal suckler cow.
Calf rearing options will be outlined by Adam Buitelaar and food guru Peter Ward of Country Choice will serve award winning beef to all those present. For farmers serious about maximising their profits it promises to be a very informative evening.
