The Hereford Society and Irish Hereford Prime will once again team up to promote their breed and the numerous awards recently won by their branded beef. After the success of the society’s 100 year centenary celebrations in 2009 a strong emphasis is to be placed on their fresh meat display this year. With their prestigious ‘world cup’ award winning ribeye of Hereford beef and Superquinn’s Gold award winning SQ range of Hereford steaks being the centrepieces. As always the proof is in the eating, with cooked steaks and burgers available to taste at the stand.
The pedigree and commercial cattle exhibited over the three days of the ploughing will attempt to demonstrate why Hereford cattle have achieved such positive results from recent data reports- with shortest calving interval, lower mortality rates, and highest for milk & fertility being the highlights. The live cattle display will also showcase the merits of supplying cattle suitable for the Hereford Prime scheme with a bonus payment of up to €60 available to qualifying animals.
The €1,000 heifer draw is sure to attract many entrants will all proceeds going to the National Children Hospital and local charities. The society also look forward to launching their new look website and Facebook page at the ploughing with details of upcoming web based competitions being released. The new website hopes to keep visitors informed of current developments and activities within the breed and allow members to interact with one another.
