Kilkenny Clearance
Those in attendance at the recent multibreed sale at Kilkenny saw strong demand for Hereford bulls. Clearly those interested in purchasing wanted a strong bull fit for service immediately with good length, growth and muscle.
Breeders Tom and Geoffrey Brennan of Freshford once again showed the Champion at Kilkenny. Balleen Frost by Balleen Tribute out of Balleen Spot this rising two-year-old sold at €3000 to Joe Maher, Ballydowel Rathmoyle.

The Brennan's also exhibited the second prize winner to the Champion Balleen Foster. By Balleen Breezer sire of Breezer 5 th last years Champion at the same venue for the Brennan's and out of Balleen Miss Diamond 2 nd he sold at a disappointing €2600 to George Doorley, Banagher, Co. Offaly. The reserve Champion Gageboro Fortitude was bred and exhibited by John Holloway Moate, Co. Westmeath who also provided the reserve Champion at Roscommon two weeks earlier. By the now well known Churchill Storm V583, he is out of Ballymartin Whilemina and sold at €3000 to John G. Maher, Ballymac, Cuffsgrange.

Norman Richardson of Newtowngore, Co. Leitrim exhibited his homebred Ashtree Buster by Breaney Sam out of Lislaughtin Rita by CH Visa and sold at the day's top price of €3100 to Pat O'Donaghue, Monagown, Conna, Mallow.
A fourth generation poll Hereford Udel 1 R51 Zephaniah from the well known Udel poll Hereford herd of David and Daithi Carroll of Campile, Co. Wexford sold at €3000 to Patrick Baldwin, Carrick on Suir. By the Carroll owned Australian sire, Doonbidder Hustler he is out of Udel 1 H48 Pompous Lady.

Francis Scott of Rathdowney sold Knockfin Luck by herd sire Grianan Magic at €2500 to Karl Mulhall, Ballyroan, Portlaoise and Knockfin Octavia at €2000 to Seamus Droan.
Local breeder Christy Finn sold three bulls Bawngarriff Uncle, Bawngarriff Dominion and Bawngarriff Triumph at €2000 each and James Melody Bunratty also reached €2000 with his Clonmoney Corleone.
Overall good demand with a very good clearance with prices from €1650 for the younger bulls to €3100 at the top end.
