Champion Sultan Going to Stud
Once again a good crowd turned out for the Society's sale at Kilmallock. The overall standard on offer plus a younger run of bulls was reflected in the prices. In general demand was for bulls in the €1450 to €1800 range with not as many customers for bulls in the €1800 to €2000 plus range as at Nenagh the previous week.

The Champion Allowdale Sultan a well grown 19 month old bull exhibited by Liam Philpott & Anne Pounds, Knocknacolan, Kanturk left the ring unsold failing to reach his reserve. A son of their UK bred herd sire Border General V25 nearing the end of his useful career and one of their better breeding cows Ballyaville Secunda the Champion Sultan will now be retained as herd sire. Allowdale Hyperion by Churchill Storm V583 also exhibited by the Philpott/Pounds partnership out of an imported dam Border Buttercup sold to local farmer Tom Sheahan, Ardpatrick, Kilmallock at 1800.

The Reserve Champion December born Moyclare Honest from the herd of Michael Molloy, Belmont, Co, Offaly is by Ervie Classic S30 out of a Yarram Pompeii dam Moyclare Cynthia. Again he failed to reach his reserve and left the ring unsold.

Top price of the day was reached when Laurance Costello of Kilflynn, Co, Kerry paid €1850 for a strong well grown bull Furaleigh Esquire bred and exhibited by Ted Sullivan, Bartlemy, Fermoy.
Rory Farrell, Toomevara sold Ballinveney Hitler by Dovea AI bull Lisnalurg Vincible at €1800 to local man Tom O'Rourke, Ballygrennan, Kilmallock.
The price range was from €1350 to €1850 with an average of €1566 and a clearance of 58% on the day. The Society's next sale takes place at Nenagh on Friday May 21st
