IMPROVEMENT IN GROWTH INCREASES DEMAND.
The change in temperature in recent days resulted in a surge in demand for Hereford Bulls at Kilmallock on Friday. Buyers from Waterford to West Cork and Longford were out in force in a more upbeat mode with the mild weather and increased grass growth.
The day's Champion Ballinvena Frankie was exhibited by Thomas Farrell, Toomevara. By herd sire Ballinveney Clement, a Carhuefree Prince son out of Ballinvena Ciara by Rathcor Leo, he sold at the day's top price of €3300. This exceptionally long and well muscled bull was purchased as a herd sire by Joe Deverell, Geashill for his Ballyaville herd in Co. Offaly.

Reserve Champion, Woodview Elliott by Woodview Sergeant out of Inniscarra Kizzy, exhibited by David Abbott, Killeshandra sold at €3100 to Gus Walsh of Grange, Co. Waterford . Herd comrade Woodview Edward by the same sire sold at €2000 to Eamonn McElligott, Lixnaw, Co. Kerry. Gerry Donnelly, Lisseycasey, Co. Clare exhibited Clondrina 833 rd by herd sire Dunlever Umbert out of Clondrina 462 nd by Garrynoe Lynch and sold at €2700 to Gerard Geary of Broadford, Co. Limerick .

Other principal prices included Joe Deverell's Ballyaville Achilles at €2550 to Cornelius McCarthy, Skibbereen and Ballyaville Abbott at €2000 to Tom Kearney of Firies, Killarney. Both are sired by herd sire Gageboro Burly. Ted O'Sullivan, Bartlemy, Co. Cork who sold five Hereford bulls at home in the week previous, sold Furaleigh Pilot 590 th by Bawngarriff Pilot at €2400 to John Collins, Abbeyfeale.
Local breeder, Paddy O'Rourke, Ardlahan, Kildimo exhibited Ardlahan Finn by herd sire Kilnagralta Urban purchased at Roscommon a few years ago and sold to Brendan Curtin, Tournafulla at €2300.
Overall there was excellent demand throughout the sale with a 92% clearance and a price range of €1600 to €3300.
