Report from Kilmallock 30th May 2005
The Irish Hereford Society's final sale of the spring season was held at Kilmallock and met tremendous demand with a full clearance. In fact there were not enough bulls to meet demand.
The Champion Grianan Colonel was by Grianan Magic out of Drumakeenan Orange 26 th bred by Society President Stephen Kenny of Brosna, Birr. Bred and exhibited by T & A Fitzgerald of Mount Temple, Moate he sold at 2,600 to breeder and dairy farmer JJ Barrett of Ballineen, Co. Cork.
The Reserve Champion Ballinalick Henry was shown by Willie Duff, Ballinalick, Nenagh and sold at 2,800 to Tim O'Sullivan, Newmarket, Co. Cork. Sired by Ballinalick Bliss he is out of homebred cow Ballinalick Polly by Dovea AI Sire Clonakenny Fenton.
Other principal prices included Mr. Duffs Ballinalick George by the same sire and out of a homebred cow by Canadian sire JNHR Diamond 28B.
Ballyaville Tom One and Ballyaville Troy exhibited by Joe Deverell, Geashill both by herd sire Breaney Toby sold at 2,500 and 2,450 to Donal Jones, Lower Effin, Kilmallock and Michael Costell, Scarriff, Co. Clare.
The Sale had an overall average of 2,111 with a range of 2,800 to 1,500.
