Killmallock April 2006

Herefords report another successful spring bull sale at Kilmallock with a 90% clearance.

The days top price of 2,650 was paid by Jim Power, Cappagh, Co. Waterford for Skehanore Juror from the herd of Tom Hickey, Ballydehob. Juror is by Mr. Hickeys stock bull Balleen Generator 6 th whose semen is available to breeders through the Society's breed improvement scheme.

Local man Tony Quinn of Patrickswell purchased three bulls at 2,400 each the Champion Ballinvena Benny by Ballinvena Utopia by BB Power 0270 out of a homebred dam by Rathcor Leo bred and exhibited by Thomas Farrell, Toomevara the Reserve Champion Ballyaville Vagabond from R & J Deverell, Geashill the first calf exhibited by their new stock bull Gageboro Burly and Rossacon Best by Trillick Best out of a dam by Rathcor Express exhibited by Jerry Murphy, Newmarket.

Gurteragh Destiny from Michael O'Keeffe also from Newmarket sold at 2,500 to Gerald Burke from Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. Destiny was sired by Trillick Best as was Aliehs Sean 5 th bred by Sheila O'Sullivan, Brosna, Co. Kerry. He sold at 2,350 to John O'Donoghue, Lombardstown, Mallow. A Yarram Pompeii V055 son Moyclare Daytona bred and exhibited by Michael Molloy, Belmont sold at 2,400 to David Kent, Mitchelstown.

The Sale had an overall average of 2,093 with a range of 1,500 to 2,650.

At the Tully Performance Test Centre the top selling bulls included two Churchill Storm sons at 3,500 each. Banner Dandy bred by Frank and Edel Considine, Clohanmore West, Kilrush sold to Dovea AI Station and Killoe Stormbird a third prize-winner from Peter Hagans, Carriglass, Co. Longford herd sold to Hereford breeder David Young, Athy as a stock sire for his Rheban Herd.

Mr. Hagan also sold Killoe Sam by the same sire at 2,400.

The Society's Next sale takes place at Nenagh on Saturday May 20 th .
