DRIVE DEMAND AT NENAGH
Suppliers to the Hereford Prime and Certified Hereford Beef Schemes were much in evidence at the Society's Sale at Nenagh on Saturday.

The day's Champion Ardmulchan Elvis, by herd Sire, Clashagad Ben from Philip Smyth, Ardmulchan, Navan, Co.Meath, topped the sale at €2500. Out of Ardmulchan Clover 23 rd by Rough Park Lol, he sold to Hereford Prime supplier Joe Fitzpatrick of Dareens, Templemore.

Coote Geelan of Dromod, Carrick-on-Shannon exhibited Loughrinn 1 Challenger by Woodview Darragh winning first prize and the Reserve Championship. He sold at a modest €2000 to Liam Cleary of Ardcroney, Nenagh. The fifteen month old Clashagad Great by Churchill Storm exhibited by Sheedy Bros., Roscrea sold at €2500 to Patrick Merrick, Ballinulty, Cullen, Co. Tipperary . His dam, Clashagad Sasha was by well known Dovea AI Sire, Rathcor Leo. Certified Hereford beef producers W & J Hanna, who supply Omagh Meats, travelled all the way from Rathfriland, Newry to secure Moyclare Guess at €2250. Bred by Michael Molloy, Belmont , Birr, “Guess” is by herd sire, Skehanore Henry, out of Moyclare Cathy.
Other principal prices included Jim Fitzpatrick's Dareens Eric by Pompeii 's son, Dareens Andy, out of Angela, by Cloonbracken Performer, to Tom Enright, Tarbert, Co. Kerry at €2200, and Eamon McKiernan's 13 month old Knockmountagh Enda by Yarram Pompeii, out of Knockmountagh Una at €2200 to Noel Collins, Killpatrick, Mullingar.
Society Chairman, Willie Branagan speaking following the sale, said he was well pleased with the result. He said the average of €2025 given a top price of €2500 was an indication of the strong and steady demand. The major effort in establishing the brand name, Hereford Prime was now providing steady reward for producers and breeders, he said. Prices ranged from €1600 to €2500, with the majority in the €1750 to €2000 range.
