Nenagh - May 2007 CONTINUED DEMAND FOR HEREFORD AT NENAGHHereford breeders were well satisfied with demand at the Society's May sale at Nenagh last Saturday The days champion Ballyraggan Viceroy 572nd was bred by James Thompson of Rathvilly Co Carlow. A thick well-developed bull he is by stock bull Glaslough Bruce out of a homebred dam by Ballinascraw Ultra. He sold to George Stanley Brittas Thurles at a disappointing €2100. However Mr Thompson also sold Ballyraggan Legacy 574 th by the same sire out of Bawngarriff Mandie again at €2100 to John Hogan Latteragh Nenagh.
The day's top price of €2200 was paid for the Reserve Champion Kenaghpoll 1 Marvel. Bred by Edwin Jones Kenagh Co Longford. This 17 month old bull is sired by the Jones' successful stock bull Beverly Hills 1 Thady and out of a homebred cow by Baltymore Bradley. He was purchased by Eamon Cleary Ardcroney Nenagh.  Keenaghpoll 1 Marvel with owner Edwin Jones, Dennis Collins (Judge) & Society President Mrs Kathleen Tynan Breaney Ardagh Co Longford Other principal prices: Creaghpoll 1 Jack by Beverly Hills 1 Thady the same sire as the Reserve Champion from the herd of WA & IH Jones Creagh Kenagh Co Longford sold at €2000 to Larry Molan Clonmel. Aliehs Sean 6 th by Trillick Best from the herd of Sheila O'Sullivan Brosna Co Kerry sold at €2000 to William Cleary Ardcroney Nenagh. Twenty-one of the twenty-six bulls forward sold to average €1887 with a range of €2200 to €1450. The majority of bulls were sold within the local Nenagh catchment area with the Irish Hereford Prime beef scheme kill facility at AIBP Nenagh a major influence. The final Spring Bull Sale to be held by the Society will take place at Kilmallock on Friday next May 25 th .
