The North Leinster branch has set a new precedent as the first regional branch of the Society to elect a woman to the chair.
Mr Val Ledwith of the Rathregan herd stepped down following a two year stint at the helm. Mr Ledwith is a regular exhibitor at summer shows and has enjoyed some considerable success at these including at the National Hereford Show Tullamore and this year taking two first prizes at Beef Expo in Kilkenny. The Rathregan herd has hosted the North Leinster field evening and the Munster branch tour. In December 2006 Rathregan Robin was exported to the Sarabande herd in the UK.
Mrs Rosemary Swan the energetic and well known chairwoman of Trim Show was the unanimous choice at the meeting to succeed Mr Ledwith. Cattle from the Kilmessan herd are exhibited at the local shows again with some considerable success. A number of cattle from the herd have been performance tested at Tully and exported to Northern Ireland. In 2007 two Churchill Storm sons Kilmessan Terry and Sam were exported to then UK Society Hereford president Marcus Lury.
In October last Mrs Swan purchased Cloonbracken Gina Female Champion at the Society’s premier sale to add new genetics to her moderate sized but select herd at Kilmessan. Mrs Swan has hosted the Munster branch annual tour she is also a keen horsewoman with wide interests in poultry, fruit and goats.
