HEREFORDS SELL TO 4800 AT ROSCOMMON
The Hereford Society's Autumn Show & Sale at Roscommon aroused much interest with prospective purchasers from a far away as Waterford West Cork and Kerry in the south and from Fermanagh and Armagh in Northern Ireland.

Champion bull Ardlahan Ginger with Darren & Paddy O'Rourke |
The days Champion 14 month old Ardlahan Ginger exhibited by Paddy O'Rourke of Kildimo Co Limerick sold at €3200 to NCBC Enfield and the Hereford Society's Breed Improvement program. This is the first joint venture between the two organisations and is welcomed as a very positive step. |
This is the first major success for Paddy O'Rourke who runs a small but select pedigree Hereford herd of 10 cows and is the result of careful attention to detail and the purchase of successive stock bulls of high quality.
The Champion is by Duibhgiolla Rudolph a Yarram Pompeii son purchased by Mr O'Rourke at Roscommon March Sale in 2006 at €2900. The dam Ardlahan Terry is by Munster AI bull Ballinascraw Ultra.

Res Champion bull Cill Cormaic Sunami with David Larkin |
The days top price €4800 was paid for Reserve Champion Cill Cormaic Sunami exhibited by David Larkin Kilcomac Co Offaly. By herd sire Ballinphraise Brandy this twenty one month old bull is out of Cill Cormaic Hazel by Lislaughtin Playboy 31 st . Purchaser Jeremiah O'Reilly Kilgobbin Bandon was well pleased with his purchase as a herd sire for his dairy and pedigree Hereford cows. |
Mr Larkin also sold Cill Cormaic Bouncer by the same sire at €2450 to Sean Fahy Ballinasloe.
Castledaly Barry a Churchill Storm son sold at €3300 for breeder Michael Farrell Castledaly Moate to Denis Joyce of Tuam Co Galway. Mr Farrell had already sold herd comrade Castledaly Crusader at €4000 to the Wilson Family Co Fermanagh at the recent Beef Expo in Kilkenny.
Rathregan Earl by Moyclare Courallie out of Rathregan Prettymaid 4 th and exhibited by Val Ledwith Batterstown Co Meath sold at €2600 to Vincent Behan Kilmacthomas Co Waterford.
Campfield Tom from Bernadette Beirne Cloone Co Leitrim by Trillick Best out of Coote's Wood Betty sold to Gerry Looby Lattin Co Tippperay at €2300.

Champion Female Cloonbracken Gina with Richard O'Beirne, Judge John Appelby & Society President Michael Molloy |
Champion heifer Cloonbracken Gina by Australian sire Banemore Pompeii T036 a half brother to Yarram Pompeii and out of Cloonbracken Caroline by Breaney Sam was exhibited by Richard O'Beirne Kilconly Tuam Co Galway. This very sweet yearling heifer was purchased by Rosemary Swan Kilmessan Co Meath at €2800. |
Glaslough Fizz exhibited by S & N Heatrick Glaslough Co Monaghn sold at €2900 to Noel Hartnett Rockchapel Co Cork. By herd sire Glaslough Cracker out of Glaslough Cindy she is scanned in calf to Temple Fort 1 Storm.
The Heatricks also sold Glaslough Fern by Cill Cormaic Playboy at €2350 to Pat Walsh Donboyne and Loughglas 1 Felicity at €2000 to Aidan McCabe Cootehill.
Overall demand was well above expectations with a very good clearance. Average for bulls €2140 average for heifers €1900.
