Report from Roscommon 12th October 2004

Tipperary Hereford breeder Trevor Dudleys Kilsunny Herd from Dovea, Thurles scored a double at the Hereford Society's October Sale held at Roscommon Tuesday 12 th October.

His bull Kilsunny Abraham by stock bull Glaslough Ruskin having secured the male championship went on to make the days top bull price of 3,500 selling to Joe O'Connor, Sharavogue, Birr, his heifer Kilsunny Queen Anabel again by Ruskin sold for 3,800 the days top female price selling to well known Hereford and Angus breeder Albert DeCogan of Co. Cork. Both animals had been prominent at this years summer shows winning several 1 st prizes and many championships.

Breeders were very happy with the demand for both bulls and females with averages well up from last year. Average for Bulls 2,040 – Females 1,950.

Other top prices for bulls included Peter Hagans' Killoepoll 1 Ron to Jeremiah Looby Co. Tipperary at 2,650 - P. Sheedys yearling bull Clashaglee 1 Clohessy by Yarram Pompeii at 2,500 to Thomas Rossiter, Wellington Bridge - Michael Molloy Reserve Champion Moyclare Bishop to David Wilson Fermanagh at 2,100 and K. & M. Diffleys' Duibhgiolla Jupiter at 2,200 to Jonathan Cahill, Ballycumber, Co. Offaly.

Mr. Diffleys' heifer Duibhgiolla Dolly sold to C. Buchanan, Sligo at 2,600. Other principal heifer prices included Jonathan Andersons Champion Corran Hill Moto to David Adams, Brookborough, Fermanagh at 2,550 - S. & N. Heatrick who bred the sire of the two top price animals for Mr. Dudley sold the Reserve Champion Loughglas 1 Shelly to David Larkin, Kilcormac at 2,400 and Glaslough Blossom to Patrick Sheedy, Roscrea at 2,300. Mr. Heatricks stock bull Ballyaville Nelson sired this heifer and Mr. Andersons Champion heifer.

ollowing quickly on the Ploughing Championships where there was tremendous interest in the breed breeders are confident that commercial farmers are showing increasing interest in the breeds ability to handle the new commercial reality of de-coupling. The Society's next sale is at Kilmallock on Friday 22 nd October
