Herfords sell to 6500 at Premier autumn sale

Demand for Herefords at the Irish Hereford Society's premier autumn sale at Roscommon exceeded expectations. Strong demand from at home Northern Ireland and the UK ensured a very good clearance of both bulls and heifers.

The day's top price was reached when the Deverell Family Geashill Co. Offaly secured Churchill Storm son Corlismore Swampy from Co. Cavan breeder Sean Mc Kiernan at a cost of 6500 as herd sire for their Ballyaville herd.

The days Champion Castlepoll 1 Superstar by Sollpoll 1 Ultimate was exhibited by C & M Beatty and Son Dungannon Co. Tyrone. Though bid to 3600 he failed to reach his reserve possibly due to the fact that under current requirements the bull would have to be permited back to Northern Ireland, remain for 30 days and be permited south again to its new owner.

He equaled the price with a further 4000 for Kilsunny Lass Champagne an eleven month old heifer by the same sire to Henry Dudley who recently exported his ten month old Lakelodge Storm to the UK at 5000.
