Existing Hereford breeders and new entrants to the breed were out in strength at Nenagh Mart on Saturday last for the dispersal of the prize winning herd of Tom & John Hayes.
This small but select herd built up by Tom Hayes on some of the best Hereford Genetics available through AI and natural service was reluctantly put on the market this autumn.
The top price of the day was paid for an outstanding two year old maiden heifer Cloonart Emily by Churchill Storm V583 out of Cloonart Realtin by Ballyaville Nairn out of Bor Sophie. She was bred by Anne Flynn, Bornacoola, Carrick-on-Shannon and sold to new entrant to the breed Noel Collins of Kilpatrick, Mullingar.
Quinsboro Rose 2 nd a 5 year old cow by Tibradden Adema several times champion at local shows and dam of Quinsboro Pompeii the €3,100 top price bull at the Society sale Nenagh in May last sold at 4,400 to Michael O'Keeffe of Kanturk. Mr. O'Keeffe also purchased Quinsboro Eva 17 th by Breany Sam at 3,000 and Quinsboro Rose 1 st by Tibradden Adema at 2,800. All in calf to Border General V85.
New entrant to the breed Alex McCarthy of Hazelwood, Kildimo purchased the 11 month old heifer Quinsboro Rose 4 th at 3,800 and the 2 year old Quinsboro Rose 3 rd at 3,100 both by Churchill Storm.
A further yearling heifer by Churchill Storm Quinsboro Eva 23 rd sold at 2,800 to new breeder John Newman of Delvin who purchased Cill Cormaic Bart at the Society March sale at Roscommon for 4,500.
