The Irish Hereford Breed Society recently met up with Dawn Meats and former Irish Rugby
player, RTE pundit and farmer, Bernard Jackman, to promote the Certified Hereford
Scheme.
The scheme pays a breed bonus on Hereford cattle presented for slaughter with
Dawn Meats that meet the specifications.
Members qualify for the 20 cent per kg seasonal bonus payment on top of their weekly base
price for Hereford & Hereford Cross cattle that meet the following specifications:
Cattle (steers and heifers) between 18 months and 30 months
Carcass weights 240 kgs and 380 kgs
Grade O = or better
Fat score 2+ to 4+
Bord Bia Quality Assured
The added bonus is on top of the base price and is worth a minimum of €48 to a maximum
of €76 for a carcase with a maximum weight of 380 kgs.
This bonus is exclusive of any other bonus offered by Dawn Meats.
Farmers wishing to avail of the bonus must become members of the Certified Hereford Scheme.
This can be carried out by completing and returning the Membership form to the Irish Hereford Breed Society
accompanied with a one off €100 payment.
